Cultural studies - Workshop by Dr. Kalyani Vallath

 Hello readers!
Here is my blog on Cultural studies workshop by Dr. Kalyan Vallath. Kalyani madam came from Kerala for teaching at the department of English.  Dr. Dilip Barad sir had organised a wonderful session by kalyani madam. Her teaching style is very different than others. that's why we enjoyed the whole day session without any hesitations. We learn from her and we got many more knowledge from her.

Here are some questions :

1 ) What is your understanding about the concepts of Cultural studies?

In my point of view Cultural studies means  Studies of our Culture. Our Culture is so different than other cultures. How relate Cultural studies with literature is very important in cultural studies. Cultural studies provide us with invaluable skills in writing, thinking and expression.
Cultural studies is not just about author who write but it's about how people consume text and that text how to engage with our real life. Because of this our learning is key  target for examination as are gender, sexuality ,race, class and other society.
2 )  How would you explain a layman about Cultural studies?
I would explain to a layman about Cultural studies. So I will give a very simple example which example is given by Dr. Kalyan madam in the session. In the Kerala most people are non vegetarians. So people are cut goats and other animals and they are eating and also drink it's blood because of poverty. But not all people of Kerala eat and drink the blood of animals. Here we analysis difference between Culture and Compulsion.

3)  If you are asked in interview to teach cultural studies - How would you introduced it?
If I asked in interview to teach cultural studies than I introduce it in very simple manner. I asked some basic questions about cultural studies. And I introduce it with very simple examples. How cultural studies engage with literature and day to day life.

4 )  How many examples from the sessions were so catchy that you will never forget it?
In the whole session madam gives many examples that examples I will never forget. Dr. Kalyani ma'am gives an example which is related with her personal family or experience and also examples of society. One example of the session I catch that never forget is about Advertisement of cooking powder. In this advertisement a women who cook for her husband and asked her husband for test a dish and her husband say very delicious dish how you manage all. In the session madam give example with expression. And that's why we enjoyed the whole session and madam also give another side of that examples that why man not cook for women and why only women cook. So that example is very interesting for me and I will never forget.

5 ) Anything else….
The whole session is very interesting and knowledgeable for us. We understand clearly about Cultural studies.
Cultural study is also about the relationship mankind.
     Cultural studies is Interdisciplinary study.
     Cultural studies is political.
Matthew Arnold say cultural studies is perfection of society and literature.

Thank you

Thinking Activity on John Keats: Finding out approaches to Death in Literature Hello readers! Here is my blog on Thinking Activity on John Keats: Finding out approaches to Death in Literature by Dr. Heenaba Zala, Department of English.   John Keats(1795-1821) Keats devotion to beauty and poetry is all the more remarkable in view of his lowly origin.
